Imam Ali Mosque: Housing the tomb of Ali ibn Abi Talib, the cousin of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the fourth guided Caliph and the first Shi'ite Imam, this mosque is considered one of the holiest places of pilgrimage among Shi’ite Muslims. The first structure over the tomb of was built by the Abassid Caliph Harun al-Rashid in 786. Every year millions of pilgrims visit the mosque and tomb to pay respects to Imam Ali.

Wadi-us-Salaam cemetery: The largest cemetery in the world, it contains about millions of graves and attracts scores of pilgrims annually. Located near the shrine of Ali ibn Abi Talib, many Shiíte from Iraq and across the globe request to get buried in this cemetery and because of the improved transportation it has been possible to do so. However, burial here means being placed in one of the catacombs. Wadi-us-Salaam litearlly means valley of peace.

Najaf seminary: Established in 430 AH (the 11th century AD) by Shaykh al-Tusi, this seminary provide training to several Shi'a clergymen. It is now home to 13,000 students and the curriculum has been updated to include several modern subjects along with inter faith initiatives.

Great Mosque of Kufa: Built in the 7th century, it is one of the earliest surviving mosques in the world and contains the remains of first cousin of Imam Husayn, Muslim ibn Aqil. Sources attribute the construction of this mosque to Caliph Umar. Spread over an area of 11,000 square metres, the mosque contains nine sanctuaries. This was the place where Imam Ali was fatally wounded by a poisoned knife during the fajr prayers.

Masjid Hanana: Located in the north of Najaf on way to Kufa, this mosque is known to be the site that contains a pillar which mourned and cried for the Prophet’s family after the battle of Karbala and for Imam Ali during his procession. The mosque was named Hanana because of these two incidents. Hanana means mourner or weeper.

Al Sahlah Great Mosque: A significant mosque located in Kufa, it was built as a neighbourhood for the early followers of Ali. It is also said to be the future home of Imam Al-Mahdi, the 12th Shia Imam.
